Pictures from filming day 1

Image
Below are a couple of pictures from the first day of filming. I think the colours of the leaves go really well with the theme of our music video.

Starting the editing process

Image
As we have filmed a good proportion of the filming we need to do. We have decided to start editing what we have filmed. Obviously, we cant edit it to the song yet because we have not filmed the main scenes, however we can still edit what we have together so we get a brief idea of what goes where, and how long it is going to be. Here is a picture of how and what we are using to edit what we have filmed. We have not put any effect on the clips yet as we need to see how the other scenes look within what we gave already filmed.

The preparation before filming

Image
Before we start filming we need to make sure that Hannah and I have got all of the photos and props we need. We also need to think about the further filming steps throughout the term. To start with we have photoshoped one of the pictures we have of our Peter Pan. We have used a friend to be Peter Pan and then we have used Photoshop to make him look slightly cartoon like. We are also going to be doing this with the other characters too. We are doing this as we are not having real characters in our video, we are effectively just going to be using the photos we have. Below is he picture before and after Photoshop:

Mise en scene and the visual themes

Image
The video below shows how Wes Anderson uses mise en scene to entice his audience. From this video I have gained information on the tricks you can use to make the audience concentrate more firmly on the things that are happening. Throughout the video we see that the main characters and the main subject of the scene is ALWAYS in the middle of the screen. This is also known as the rule of thirds. Hannah and I would really like to use these techniques in our music video. We both feel as if it will benefit our final media product.

Possible filming places

Image
Hannah and I are not certain on where we want to film the forest scenes. We have been looking forests that give us the sense of fairytails. Below are a few pictures of a possible filming place we looked at for the forest.

Audience research

WES ANDERSON

Image
Wes Anderson is an American film director, producer, actor and screenwriter.  He has made many films like Grand Budapest Hotel, Moonrise Kingdom, Rushmore and many more influential films. He grew up in Texas where he majors in Philosophy. He then met Owen Wilson and started making short films, which some of them were aired on a local cable station. After one of his short films got popularity, they raised enough money to make a future-length film.  "I wouldn't say that I'm particularly bothered or obsessed with detail. That's the kind of movie that I like to make, where there is an invented reality and the audience is going to go someplace where hopefully they've never been before. The details, that's what the world is made of." Hannah and I are inspired by Wes Anderson as we really like how he films and directs his movies. We have also looked closely at the colours he uses in the films. We have noticed that he uses bright colours throughout his f...

Storyboard

Image
Below are the pictures of our story board. These are helpful for us when we are filming our production as it is clear to see what we need to film next. It is also helpful for the audience to see how we have progressed during the filming from the blog posts. We have looked at the lyrics very closely and we have tried our best to work around the lyrics regarding what they mean and what is being said at the time.

LYRICS

Here are our ideas based on the lyrics of the song

How Peter pan is portrayed

Image
Once upon a time is a Television show that "tells the story of a new world, one in which fairy-tale legend and modern life collide". Hannah and I are going to be looking at once upon a time for inspiration towards the music video. Peter pan is in this show which means that we can closely look and research how he is being portrayed in the series. Even though peter pan is portrayed badly throughout the series of Once upon a time, we have chosen not to portray him as a bad character. This is mainly because the song is a vaguely happy song. Much to our surprise, Ruth B who wrote and sings the song, got inspiration for writing "Lost Boy" from once upon a time. This intrigues us more as we are going to figure out which bits her ideas are from. Below is a picture of what Peter Pan looks like in Once upon a time. Secondly, I am going to look at the film Pan. Pan is about a 12 year old boy (Peter Pan), who lives a bad life in an orphanage. He then finds himself bein...

The characters that we will need to use: Peter pan Wendy Tinkerbell  Captain hook The lost boy For these characters we are going to produce a modern version of them instead of them bieng the original fantasy characters.  For the location: Forest Dark (wood) room Tree house The costume plan: (not final) Peter Pan- Mainly dark green and earthy colours.  Wendy- Old fashioned dress, frills etc.  Tinkerbell- Hair up, green dress, small, petite.  Captain hook-  Hat- beard- scary- pirate look Lost Boy- Pajamas, small

Production notes

Image
For our A2 production, I will be working with Hannah again. We have chosen to make a music video, We have chosen the song 'Lost Boy' by Ruth B. This was not our first choice however we have decided on this song as we have had creative ideas that we think could work with the lyrics of the song. The main theme of the song is Peter pan, A lost boy, Wendy and Tinkerbell. These are the characters from the film peter pan, which we are both familiar with. Regarding the fact the song is mainly about this film, we decided to research the film and get some ideas on how creative we can be with the music video. Below is a YouTube video that someone has made with some scenes from the film. We really like the Forrest themes and the 'magical' aspect of it.

Deciding which song...

Image
For our production, Hannah and I know we definitely want to create a music video, however we are not 100%sure what song we want to do. We have a few choices that we are very fond of. The first one being,   I hate u, love u by Gnash.  We both like this song because of the message it gives. We also like the way the video is filmed and how the meaning of the song is portrayed throughout the music video. We also really like the treatment of it. Even though we cannot copy the ideas from the music video, it can still give us ideas and inspiration for our own production. Our second choice is,  Lost Boy by Ruth B.  Hannah and I both like this song a lot. We both are interested in the creativity of the words in the song and also how they are portrayed differently in the music video. Like the other song choices we have we really like how they have filmed the music videos. Specifically in this song, I like how Ruth B has portrayed the lyrics and the story line to th...

AS evaluation questions

As one of our tasks we needed to show another member of our class our media production and answer any questions they had in detail. The first question they asked was: 1. Why did you choose a female protagonist in your production? We choose a female protagonist as we thought it would really represent a vaunerable teenager in the woods. We had also considerd the other films that we had watched where there was a female protagonist and we thought it really representative of the character and it made the setting and the feeling of the film better and it intrigued us. 2. If you were to do your media production again, would you change anything, and why? If Hannah and I were to produce the opening sequence again, we would Definitly change the way we organised the whole set up and the filming etc. We both felt like it was very rushed and we did not have enough planning time to create the product. Having more time and organising the production of it better would have overal made the pro...

AS review

Image
AS Evaluation Below is our final media product for AS The synopsis of our media product The synopsis of our opening sequence is a teen girl who is walking her dog when Monty (the dog) sees something in the woods. Her dog then goes missing and she attempts to look for the dog in the woods. Whilst she is in the woods mysterious occurrences start to happen which makes the sense and the feeling of the opening sequence more tense  Areas of success One of the main areas of success throughout our opening sequence was the music and the soundtrack that we used. We had come up with the idea that we would a nursery rhyme called 'In the woods'. We chose this soundtrack to influence the intention in the woods. By using it; we did feel as if it added to the opening sequence. Another area of success was our location choice. At the beginning of filming we had chosen a location choice which progressively was the wrong location choice as it didn't fit our theme very well....
