AS review

AS Evaluation
Below is our final media product for AS

The synopsis of our media product

The synopsis of our opening sequence is a teen girl who is walking her dog when Monty (the dog) sees something in the woods. Her dog then goes missing and she attempts to look for the dog in the woods. Whilst she is in the woods mysterious occurrences start to happen which makes the sense and the feeling of the opening sequence more tense

Areas of success
One of the main areas of success throughout our opening sequence was the music and the soundtrack that we used. We had come up with the idea that we would a nursery rhyme called 'In the woods'. We chose this soundtrack to influence the intention in the woods. By using it; we did feel as if it added to the opening sequence. Another area of success was our location choice. At the beginning of filming we had chosen a location choice which progressively was the wrong location choice as it didn't fit our theme very well. However we had overcome this and chosen a different location which we thought really created the right atmosphere for our media product. In addition another area of success was the camera shots and angles that we used. We felt as if they portrayed how the protagonist was feeling and what was happening throughout the sequence. The final success was the titles and the fonts that we used. Hannah and I felt as if they made the final media product very atmospheric and the font we used fitted to the theme we chose which was horror.

Areas of failure
The main area that we felt could have gone better was the lighting throughout the product. Due to personal circumstances it was hard for us to film the whole sequence in one day which was then difficult to film the rest of the production with the same lighting and with the same setting and atmosphere as when we had filmed the first section. The main problem with filming it on two separate days meant that we could not get the lighting to look the same as it was slightly darker than the first half. Which could have been a bonus as it could have added to the feeling as if time had gone on as she was looking for her dog. However there is a disadvantage of this as there could be a significant difference in the lighting between one clip to another clip. Furthermore another area that we felt we failed on was the timing and the organisation of the filming and the editing of the production. This meant that we were slightly rushed with everything we were doing. Next time we would be organised and we would discuss what we were going to do way before we start the process. One other part of the sequence we could have improved on was the Foley sound. We didn't take much time to really think about what sound effects we needed. We also made a couple of the sound effects which made them sound slightly less professional as we recorded the audio on a IPhone.

Audience feedback
We asked multiple audience members to give us feedback on our product. A few of the people we asked said that the story line was unclear and it could have been clearer if we had left a couple of hints towards what was happening. Furthermore they also said that the sequence was positively good and that they liked the soundtrack and the main theme and setting of the product. However they did also notice that the lighting could have been better and there was a significant difference in the colour contrast.

In conclusion we both felt as if there was a lot of areas we could have improved on but there was also some areas where we felt couldn't have gone any better. From the mistakes we have made next time we will organise yourself better and really think and decide on the location and timings etc before we are close to filming the product. Regarding the editing of the sequence I felt like it could have been slightly better by adding in more clips of production companies etc. instead of it being plain and simple.
