Main product

Below is our main and final product. Hannah and I are really pleased with how it has turned out. We have had some issues along the way which delayed the filming and the editing of it, however we managed to do it all. We feel as if the imagery and the scenes reflect what Ruth B is saying in her song Lost Boy.

Ancillary text- DVD cover

Image
Below is my DVD cover that I have produced for one of my ancillary text. I am proud with how this turned out. I researched other DVD covers to get ideas for my own. To create the right side, I used screenshots from our music video. This shows the audience what to expect throughout the 'DVD'. For the left side, I have used a quote that we have also used in the music video. Again, I have used screenshots from the video to show the audience what to expect when they are watching it.

Ancillary text- Magazine cover

Image
Here is my magazine cover, this is the second ancillary text. I have used a website called canvas. I used this to ensure it was good quality. I have used images from the music video and I have also added quotes.

4.How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Image
For this question, I will be creating a blog post for this question. There was multiple technologies we used for the construction, research and planning of our media product. The main media technology we used was the editing software we used to edit our production. The editing software is called Serif Movie plus. This was a really easy way to edit our production. The actual editing process took a long time to finish. However the learning of how to edit was fairly easy and efficient. having used this same editing software for my AS production I knew how to use it, but we have extended our knowledge and our skills so I had to learn more technical ways. Another media technology we used throughout the planning to the filming of the production was the camera we used. We had been given a camera to use by the school which was a Canon LEGRIA HFR706. However this camera was not the best quality, this meant that we used this camera and my own personal one from home which is a Nikon D3300. ...

3. What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Image
I have learnt a lot from my audience research. I asked our audience 5 questions, I then recorded what they had to say. The five questions were: 1. Does the music video go with the ancillary texts? 2. Did the character and the location match the video? 3. Do you think the camera angles helped the message that was being portrayed? 4. Did the imagery of the video match the soundtrack? 5. What improvements could be made/ what could we have done differently to the video? Here is our video of people answering our questions. Unfortunately, we lost quite a bit of footage of us asking a couple of other people the questions. However the clips we got are still helpful.

2. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

Image
Below I have answered Q2. I have made posters presenting my ideas. I felt this was a good way of presenting my ideas as it is clear and I can also link the photos to the information clearly and easily.

1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

For question 1, I am going to be creating a Prezi. Below is the press I have created.  https://prezi.com/p/mdqof8xg4maj/

Ancillary text: A magazine advertisement -research

Image
The second thing I will be producing is a magazine page, promoting the music video. I have chosen this as I feel it will be a good way to promote the music video. I will also be able to write about the music video and explain it. For ideas I have been looking at magazine articles for music and music videos. On the right, I have chosen a couple of articles that i really liked. I am going to take some ideas from these and make them my own. I really like the way the first one is laid out and that it is really eye catching. The second one is very vibrant. It will definitely attract peoples attention. I am interested in the way they have used the big writing for the headline. The third one is my favorite, I like how they have put the writing over the photo. The writing is subtle which I really like and It works really well.

Ancillary text: DVD cover -research

Image
For part of my ancillary text I will be producing a DVD cover. I will be creating this using mediums like publisher, word and Photoshop. For research, I am going to be looking at some DVD covers of films that relate to what I am doing. Below is a selection of the DVD covers that I liked and that I will look back on when creating mine. I really like the blue theme that a lot of them have, it gives you the sense of fairly tales etc. I also like the writing, how it looks old fashioned and slightly magical. In addition, the fading of the pictures on the front also look good. I will take all these into account throughout the process of me making my DVD cover.

Ruth B cover

Image
This is Ruth B, and the cover of her album. Ruth B produced, sung and wrote the song we are making the music video for. That is why I will be looking at the art for her music. I am intrigued how she only is showing half her face. However as a whole, it is very simple, with the words. The colours are also very muted, no bold colours which may not draw attention to it. I like the font for the writing that she has used, we have used writing like this throughout are music video to give the feel that it has the theme of fantasy and is non fictional. I am researching this as I need ideas for my ancillary text where I will be making a DVD cover.

Audience reseach

The audience need to be satisfied with what they watch. I will be doing a poll, a servery and I will be doing a questionnaire to make sure that Hannah and I produce what the audience want to see. I will be doing these throughout my blog. I am also going to be researching different music videos and music that relates to what our final media product is going to be. For our audience research, we need to know what the audience want and what will make them watch the music video. We need to make sure that the video links to the lyrics in the song to entice the audience. We also need to ensure that the video is captivating and the audience cam be drawn into it.

case study: The girl with the dragon tattoo

Image
http://www.bfi.org.uk/sites/bfi.org.uk/files/downloads/uk-film-council-digital-innovation-case-study-the-girl-with-the-dragon-tattoo.pdf  The film 'The girl with the dragon tattoo' was the first of a trilogy of films which were all based on the books of the author Stieg Larson. Recognizing the potential of the film's massive fan base, the films distributor (momentum pictures) chose to use their digital innovation award on a campaign that would focus on finding and targeting these readers. They wanted to promote this film mainly through social media and on the internet, for example they had a following of fans that had already read the book, so they promoted it through Facebook groups and websites etc.  The target age group is women over 20 years of age. Therefore they made sure that they were looking at the digital environment of where that age group was the most comfortable. In addition as well as the campaign being a good way to target age groups like this, ...

Evaluation questions

Below, I am going to be looking at the evaluation questions and deciding how I am going to answer each question, and what platform or products I am going to use to answer them.  1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? For this question, I am going to be creating a Prezi. I feel this would be the best way to present this question as I will be able to show a lot of information in an easy format. 2. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts? To answer this question, I am going to be making posters to project my ideas, I feel this is the best way to answer this question as I will be able to project exactly what I think.  3.  What have you learned from your audience feedback? For question 3, I will be asking the audience of our music video questions about the video. I will then record what they say and use that for answering the question. I will be editing...

Problems with editing

Image
Unfortunately, we came across a problem whilst trying to edit some clips from the filming we had done. We had some issues with saving the clips from to our computer, this therefore meant that they were not showing up on the editing software. This delayed our editing until we were able to get the files from our SD card.

Practicing scenes

Image
Hannah and I thought it would be a good idea to start practicing some of the main scenes for our music video. We wanted to see what the lighting was going to be like and which angles we were planning on using. We both gained a lot from doing this as it made everything seem clearer in regards of the production of our media product.

case study: 4,3,2,1.

http://www.bfi.org.uk/sites/bfi.org.uk/files/downloads/uk-film-council-digital-innovation-case-study-4-3-2-1.pdf 4,3,2,1. was released 2nd June 2010.
